Cardwell Day 1

We eventually crawled out of bed at 8.45.  It was about 18deg overnight and I don't think we had acclimatized that quickly.

Put a load of washing in while we had breakfast.  We then organized ourselves and set off in the car to the Cardwell Forest Drive.  Our first stop was the Cardwell Lookout.  A short climb of 1.5km return to the various lookouts.

Back to the car then onto the Spa Pool. A short walk from the car park.  This was a natural depression in the creek bed which caused the water to bubble and swirl like a jacuzzi.

Returned to the Bruce Highway and headed north to Tully where we stopped at the info office to book a tour of the local sugar mill. Arrived at the sugar mill with 10 minutes to spare. A well conducted tour with full safety and induction procedures,  a talk on the process then a walking tour of the plant - a total of 2 hours.

We then departed Tully and headed back south to the turnoff to the Murray Falls about 20km off the highway.  A number of campers were staying at the well kept camp ground near the falls.  The boardwalk to the falls was also new. After a short walk along the boardwalk we were at the base of the falls.  Quite spectacular,  would be really spectacular during the wet season.

Wandered back to the car and worked our way back to the van in Cardwell.  Booked another night as there is a market in the morning and a good bike path along the shoreline we may investigate.  But now it's tea, telly then bed.
