Bonny Hills Day 1

This morning we woke about 6.20 and witnessed a very good sunrise.  Overnight temperature 17.5 deg.C - quite warm for this time of year.  Back to bed for a couple of hours - we are in holiday mode.

                                       Sunrise from the caravan

We hit the road about 10am heading for Port Macquarie.  Traveling along Ocean Drive then onto Matthew Flinders Drive,  our first stop was Tacking Point Lighthouse where we spotted our first whales.

The Sea Acres Rainforest Centre was our next port of call . An informative display of plants and animals of the area.  It was then onto Shelly Beach and a walk up to Harrys Lookout (172 steps up then down). Back to the car for our picnic lunch while watching more whales and enjoying the fine weather.

From Shelly Beach we followed the coast around to Town Beach where we firstly walked to Flagstaff Hill Lookout then back the other way to the Break wall or entrance to Hastings River.  Numerous rocks on the wall had been painted different colours and messages and greetings were written on them - quite interesting.

Back at the car we headed back to the van stopping at a supermarket for a few supplies then stopping at Bonny Hills Garden Centre Café.  We had heard they had scones to kill for so we ordered our Devonshire Tea.  Service and coffee were very good but the scones were not as good as the ones from Tea Gardens a few days ago.

We returned to the van for a nice sunset then tea,  telly and bed.
