Airlie Beach to Bowen

We were up at 8am,  showered,  fed and packed by 9.30 am. It never ceases to amaze me, but as you are about to leave everyone comes out to talk to you,  consequently it was after 10am when we left.

Plug the address into Navman and away we go.  We only had about 85km to Bowen our next destination. Onto the Bruce Highway and there was a bit of traffic around especially for a Sunday.  Arrived at Bowen,  found the chosen caravan park and booked in for 2 nights.

After everything was set up we had a quick lunch and planned the afternoon. We decided to do the local tour drive which took us to various lookouts and other points of interest. One of the lookouts was tremendous with 360deg. views. There was a café there but we resisted the temptation at this stage.

We also visited the area where they filmed the movie "Australia" with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. The same area was a base for the Flying Boats (Catalinas) during the war. Lots of info boards etc to ponder.

Out to the Big Mango where Evon was hoping to buy some fresh mangoes,  but the mango season is over summer -she missed out this time. Picked up some more brochures from the info office,  fuelled up the car then  visited  the supermarket for supplies (Woolworth was not open on Sunday only an IGA) then returned to the van and you guessed it , Happy Hour,  tea, telly then bed.
