Gold Coast to Gunalda Rest Area

We were up by 8 am this morning,  had a shower,  breakfast then packed the van,  said our goodbyes to Nicole and the dogs and on our way by 10am.

Back to the M1 highway and onto Brisbane.  A good run generally with a few light showers of rain. Stopped for a break at the Caboolture Service Center to stretch the legs.  On our way again and it was dual highway for the majority of the trip.

Our next stop was to fuel the car and ourselves.  This was at the Matilda service center south of Gympie. $1.47/lt for diesel - not bad.

On the road again on a two way highway.  On my bike ride in 2010 I stopped at Gundalda Rest Area so we made that our destination for the night.  On arrival we were the only van there which made Evon a bit apprehensive but it wasn't long before we were joined by a couple of other vans.

Had a good chat with a couple from Brisbane.  They had a motorhome and had travelled the area quite extensively.  They gave us the lowdown on all the free camps they had experienced.

We then retired to our respective vans. Had tea, no telly, planned our trip for tomorrow then into bed.

We would like to thank Nicole for her hospitality and hope we didn't upset her neighbours too much.

An observation I made was the new motorway which bans bicycles - I'm glad I did my bike ride when I did.

  1. They aren't true neighbourly neighbours if they hold a grudge over their issue! :-)
