Today we found it difficult to get back into tourist mode. It was nearly 11am when I put the key in the ignition and started the car.
We decided to go to Yamba. Out of Grafton onto the Pacific Highway for about 40km then turned off to Yamba. Our first stop was a lookout near the lighthouse. Tremendous views of the mouth of the Clarence River and the Coral Sea, and way out in the sea , a whale.
Back into the shop area where we wandered around before buying some bread for our picnic lunch from the local bakery. We drove to Angourie and the blue pools. We had lunch first then walked down to the pools.
We then moved on to a lookout at Angourie Point, lookong over Point Beach and Back Beach, N. S.W 's first surfing reserve. No whales that we could see, white caps everywhere which may have camouflaged the whales.
Returned to the Pacific Highway via Yamba, then drove to Brooms Head, a coastal village renown for its fishing and scenery. On the way there we stopped at the café at Ferry Park. They had a very comprehensive visitors centre on the Clarence Valley. This is one of the many places I stopped at and had a coffee when I did my bike ride in 2010.
On arrival at Brooms Head we went straight to the lookout high above the sea, in the hope of spotting whales. They weren't playing today but we did get to watch a sea eagle flying around. On the drive into and out of Brooms Head there were warnings about emus and kangaroos being very active in the area. We drove through unscathed.
Back to the van - Happy Hour, cooked tea on the bbq, telly then bed.
Hopefully we will feel more energetic tomorrow.
