Grafton Day 3

We were up at a respectable hour this morning and decided to drive into town to see the Big Truck Parade.  Found a park for the car then walked to an intersection where the trucks were turning right as they drove through town.  There were some really well prepared rigs all polished and detailed,  honking their horns as they proudly drove by.

We then decided to get some bread for lunch then head down the Clarence Valley.  At the supermarket we bought more than just bread so after our purchases it was back to the van and an early lunch.

After lunch we headed off again to the historic town of Lawrence which in its hayday was the major centre of the Clarence River with numerous wharfs to cope with the busy river traffic.

Just on the outskirts of Lawrence was a 24 hour vehicle ferry. We only had 10 minutes to wait before boarding the ferry for the short trip across the Clarence River to the road which led us to Maclean.

Maclean is an interesting town. In the year 2000 the town commenced to paint the power poles in selected tartans. About 200 have been decorated at this stage.

Because of its scotish heritage a Highland gathering is held each year, now in its 109th year. Maclean is also the base for a fishing fleet and is the southern gateway to the Australian sugar industry.  We experienced  spectacular views over the Clarence Valley from a lookout before relaxing in a cafe overlooking the Clarence River.

We then returned to the van,  caught up with some more reading,  Happy Hour,  tea,  telly then bed.
