Urunga Day 2

Sunday markets and whales were the order of the day today.

Up and away by 9.30,  we headed to Coffs Harbour . There were two markets at the harbour. A car boot sale organized by the local Lions Club and across the road a traditional weekend market, stalls selling oils, soaps, candles and numerous other products.  We bought some fresh fruit.

We decided to leave the car in the car park and walk to the local port.  We then ventured out to Muttonbird Island.  Another rather strenuous walk, uphill for 500 metres,  across the top then down to a viewing platform.   Evon spotted a whale from the top of the island and we spent the next 30 minutes watching it frolic in close proximity.

I had to drag her away and head  back to the car.  We then drove to the "Big Banana" north of Coffs Harbour where we had lunch. After lunch we drove to Sealy Lookout and the Forest Sky Pier,  about 6km off the Pacific Highway up in the hills.  Spectacular views over the City of Coffs Harbour and great coastal views.

Back down the hill passing banana plantations and turn for home. We made one more stop at the little town of Sawtell and in particular the Sawtell Headland.  Well, we spotted some more whales didn't we. About an hour later I was able to persuade the boss to return to the car then back to the van.

Back at the van about 4.45 we walked to the end of the boardwalk again in hope of getting that one picture of the sun setting behind the mountains behind the town of Urunga. We were a little late.  Our first night here we were at the end of the boardwalk and looked back towards the setting sun and it was magic.  We didn't have a camera.

Back to the van and I cooked tea on the bbq then a bit of telly then bed.
