Longreach Day 4

Crawled out of bed about 8.45am, had breakfast then I went for a bike ride.  Out the Landsborough Highway towards Winton for 15km, turned around and back to the Apex Park on the Thomson River for a sticky beak. There were about 30 caravans free camping here. Then it was back to Longreach by the old road,  then back to the van to pick up Evon.  With Evon in tow we headed along the sealed bike path out to the Agricultural College then back to the van.

Had a shower,  a late lunch then into town for more supplies and fuelled up the car.  Back to the van for a restful hour before our next engagement.

The bus picked us up at 4.30pm for a ride out to the sunset river cruise departure point. Once there we all boarded the boat for a peaceful cruise down the Longreach Lagoon, part of the Thomson River system. The captain gave us the usual commentary on the history of the area and about the bird and wildlife that frequent the area.  We did see lots of Whistling Kites and a lot of their big nests. After about an hour cruising we pulled into the river bank to enjoy the sunset. We stayed there for about 15 minutes then continued on for another 15 minutes when we arrived at our dinner destination - "Smithy's Camp" where we were fed and entertained with a live show.

A good meal of either barramundi or Beef hot pot followed by a baked apple or mixed berries with cream, finishing with billy tea or coffee and damper. The live entertainment was Tania Kernaghan supported by her father Ray Kernaghan. A very good show.

About 9pm we all piled back into the buses for our return trip to the van.  A very enjoyable night was had by all.
Tomorrow we relocate.
