We were up at 8am and on the road by 9.45 and headed for Cobar. Negotiated our way through the township of Bourke and onto the Kidman Way.
Excellent road all the way, although a couple of spots where we had to stop for roadworks. A few road trains were heading to Bourke and the odd car and caravan. I was grinning like a Cheshire cat because we had a strong tail wind (northerly) and when I filled up in Cobar on calculation I had 10.7lt/100 km. I had been getting 14-15lt/100 km because of head winds.
Arrived in Cobar about 12.15 and found a park near the info centre. After visiting there we walked into town and around the various shops then had lunch at subway. Back at the car we decided to check out a rest area we had heard about. Arrived at the Newey Recreation Area in Cobar and found a couple of other vans already here so we decided to stay. Set the van up and then went for a walk around the area. It is an old reservoir and there is plenty of bird life around (feathered variety).
We enjoyed Happy Hour by ourselves before inviting ourselves to our next door neighbours camp fire where we watched the full moon rising over the water. They are from South Australia. Nine vans ended up here for the night.
It was then time for tea, no telly then bed. We may stay here another day, we will make that decision tomorrow.
