Griffith Day 2

We were again,  a little slow to get moving.  Left about 10.30am and our first stop was Griffith Pioneer Park Museum.  The museum is a historic village set on 11 hectares on Scenic Hill. The open air museum captures the essence of Griffith in the early 1900's. There are more than 40 buildings which have been either relocated to the site or are recreations of the original.  There is a large collection of early machinery and tools and a replica of the original "Bagtown" (early Griffith) shops. There is also an Italian Museum commemorating the contribution of the Italian community to the area. We spent about 3 hours wandering around the exhibits.

Our next venture was Lake Wangan Recreation Area which was about 7km out of town.  A comprehensive recreation area with BBQ, shelters and toilets.  There was birdlife wandering around freely,  the "boss " tried to get a photo of one of the many peacocks but none would stand still for her. It would be a very popular place in summer.  There was a sailing club, ski boat club and a rowing club all located here.

We found a picnic table and enjoyed a late lunch while watching the birdlife.  We then turned back toward town but Evon wanted to visit a particular winery - the Warburn Estate.  We left there with 3 boxes of wine (2 white,  1 red) on special.

We then checked out the free camping area in the centre of town before returning to the van for a coffee and cake.  A walk around the park then it was (no Happy Hour) tea, telly then bed.  Tomorrow we move further south again.
