Griffith to Hay

We were up and on the road by 9.45.  We had decided to travel west to Hay so it was back on the Kidman Way to Darlington Point then turn right onto the Sturt Highway to Hay. A "call of nature" and two areas of roadworks and we were in Hay.

Parked the car and van in the appropriate carpark and walked up to the info centre.  We picked up some info on the area and got the lowdown on free camps in the area.  Back to the car and decided to check out the Sandy Point Rest Area on the Murrumbidgee River.  Found the area and there were already about a dozen vans there so found a spot and set the van up.  We will stay here 2, maybe 3 days. We then had lunch while planning the next few days.

After lunch we put the walking shoes on and set off on one of the many walking tracks around here. We ended up back in the town centre and made our way to Hay War Memorial High School.  The school was built as a war Memorial in 1923 and within the original main building there are honour rolls and a growing collection of artefacts, photographs and documents relating to both district war service across the 20th century and the school itself.

Back to the main town centre where I needed to buy a puncture repair kit which I bought at the local hardware shop. It was then time for coffee before returning to the van.  Total distance walked - over 7km.

Once back at the van we had Happy Hour followed by tea, no telly,  a little reading then bed. There are about 30 vans here tonight.
