Hay Day 1

Don't tell anyone but we finally crawled out of bed at 10 am this morning.  It was cold, only 4 degrees although it was a beautiful day reaching 25 degrees later.

Any how once up we had breakfast,  washed the dishes then went for a walk along the Murrumbidgee River to the Bidgee Riverside Trail. This wanders around the river past Bushy Bend. There are a collection of sculptures that provide a unique interpretation of the stories and history of Hay. There were also Warakirri Murals located on the bridge pylons.
Representing Cobb & Co and the difficulties they faced.

Back to the van for lunch,  then guess what,  the bikes came off the back of the van.  We rode into town and to the Dunera Museum or the Hay Internment and Prisoner of War Camps Interpretive Centre housed at the old Hay Railway Station. There were 6000 prisoners interned over the war period.

We then ventured to the Hay Gaol Museum.  This complex has had many uses since it was built in 1878. Gaol, maternity hospital,  mental hospital, POW detention centre,  Institute for Girls and now a museum. The gaol grounds house an interesting collection of old machinery and equipment.

Back to the van and our own coffee and cake - we are getting stingy.

Happy Hour was spent with a couple from Nagambie. Then it was time for tea, no telly then bed.  We have elected to stay another day here.
