We were up nice and early this morning, showered, packed and on the road 8 am. We intended to travel to Canberra via the Kings Highway. The highway was to be closed between 9 am and 4 pm, hence our early start.
Arrived in Queanbeyan about 9.30 am, found a McDonald's for a toilet break and breakfast. Back to the car and we punched in the address of the Australian War Memorial on the Navman and away we go.
Very difficult finding a park as it seems a very popular venue. Parked in one of the side streets then walked to the entrance. Upon arrival we were in time for a conducted tour. A well presented tour which took a good 2 hours, time well spent.
We then went to the archives office and enquired about a manuscript my grandfather had compiled. We were given a bound copy to look at and it made good reading. I learnt quite a lot about our family history and it was suggested we get a copy.
We then found a cafe where we had a coffee and cake before finding our way out to Don and Maries place where we are staying for the night. Tonight we were invited out with them to the local pub for good meal and trivia night. Our table won, no thanks to me, but it was a very pleasent night.
We called it a night about 11 pm. Tomorrow, hopefully we will cycle around Lake Burley Griffin.
G for George a Lancaster aircraft on display at the War Memorial.
