Charters Towers Day 1

Up about 9am this morning,  showered and fed then into the car and to the 11am tour of the Venus Gold Battery.  This was a walking tour with guide.  Quite informative,  a couple of audio visual presentations all explaining the history of the plant.

Back into the car and return to the town center and parked the car. We then walked to the Zara Clark Museum.  This museum houses a large collection of photos,  equipment and memorabilia of the town's golden past.

Next stop was the Stock Exchange Arcade.  Built as the Royal Arcade in 1888, it housed the town's Stock Exchange from 1890. There are many shops in the arcade as well as the Assay Mining Museum.  We also watched the "calling of the card". We bought some lunch in the arcade.

The World Theater was next. Here we explored the cultural complex where the blend of heritage architecture and state of the art technology meet.

It was then back to the car,  pick up some provisions on the way,  then back to the van.

About 5pm in the camp kitchen a Bush Poet was performing. We enjoyed Happy Hour while we listened to his stories and poems. Back to the van and it was tea, telly then bed.

Tomorrow we hope to travel to Hughenden.
