Ilfracombe Day 1

Today we were up about 8.30,  had a shower then breakfast.  A chat with our various neighbours before heading off down the Machinery Mile on foot.

The Great Machinery Mile  is home to a range of equipment from standing engines to earth moving machinery all lined up on concrete pads along the main street.

We crossed over the road and walked past the State Primary School and stopped at the Wellshot Centre. Here they tell the story of Wellshot Station,  one of Australia's greatest sheep and wool producers.  There was a 20minute dvd running.

We then paid a visit to the Council Offices where there were more static displays.  Across the road was the local swimming pool and spa (water heated naturally from the artesian bore). We may try it out tomorrow.

Past the Memorial Park Retunda  we then wandered into the General Store then the Post Office.  The Post Office was the original, dating back over 100 years.  It now also incorporates the local library, Gift shop and Internet access.

Into the iconic Wellshot Hotel we went next. The hotel came to Ilfracombe in 1890. All sorts of hats, some in good condition and some tattered beyond belief formed a border around the ceiling.  There were quirky things all around including a unique bar made from an opened out wool press.

Out of the hotel and back to the van which is next door to the pub where we had lunch then we just sat around and read etc.

Had a coffee about 5pm then it was over to the "shed" for Happy Hour or two.  Jesse, the owner of the park entertained us for a good hour with some poetry and the odd risqué joke.

About 7.15 it was back to our respective vans for,  you guessed it, tea, no telly then bed.
