Trip to Magnetic Island

We went to Magnetic Island today.  The "boss" was hoping to get away by 8.30am. It didn't happen,  we finally got away by 9.30am. Found a spot to park the car free of charge and walked to the Ferry Terminal.  A special weekend price included an all day bus ticket on the island. Seniors were half price.

The Ferry trip across to the island took about 20 minutes. Once on the island we rode the bus to Horseshoe Bay where we wandered the beach then the few shops.  We decided to have an early lunch while we waited for the bus to take us to the Fort Walks..

We took the short bus ride to the walk A 4km 1.5 hour return stroll. The track wound its way along the ridge with good views of Arthur and Florence Bays on the ascent. We also saw some koals in the trees. On the way up to the top we passed various remains of army buildings from WWII.  At the top, an observation tower and Command Post ruins exist.  Tremendous views all around.  We returned to the bus stop and waited about an hour for the next bus.

The bus took us to Arcadia where they had named a bay after me.  We also walked along the sea wall to where there was a colony of Rock Wallabies including a joey in the pouch.

We decided to walk back to the Ferry Terminal which was about 2 km from where we were.  The newly fitted boardwalk took us up over Bright Point then to the Ferry Terminal.

We had another wait to catch the Ferry back to Townsville,  so after taking some refreshments we then walked along the rock wall to the entrance to the Ferry Quay. We saw some more rock wallabies along the way.

Ferry was on time and in 20 minutes we were back on the mainland. Back to the car, then back to the caravan park.  We are both very tired, we must have walked about 10km all up.

It will be an early night for me, all that fresh air and walking.
