Back at the van we had breakfast, then said goodbye to our friends from Canberra who were heading home. Completed our preparation and on our way by 9 am. On the way out of Cobar we paid a visit to the Fort Bourke Lookout. Here we could view Cobar and surrounds and view the New Cobar Open Cut Gold Mine from a viewing platform 150m above the entrance.
We then returned to the Kidman Highway on our way to Hillston. There were numerous goats, a few kangaroos, emus and the odd stumpy tail goanna. We stopped at a rest area near Gilgunnia where Evon cooked up our tomatoes, we shared an orange and an apple and threw out some pineapple. Reason: quarantine area ahead, all fruit to go.
Back on the road, traffic was very light and the countryside was forever changing. Arrived in Hillston about 1.30, found the caravan park and booked in for 2 nights. Set the van up then walked up the street to the town centre. Found the static info centre but we already had most of the brochures. The local supermarket was next but we were caught out as they don't use plastic bags so I went back to get the car. Job done we filled the car up, visited the local butcher then back to the van.
Enjoyed a homemade coffee and a bought apple slice while sitting outside in the warmth of the sun. Went for a walk around the caravan park and the adjoining Lions Park before returning to the van for tea, telly then bed.
